There's quite a lot of hacking going on in the sims community recently. Today it happened to Garden of Shadows, here's the link: http://www.digitalperversion.net/garden ... #msg546481
There's that certain IP 74.55.11.66 which is involved many times. This IP is connected to tsr (the sims resource). That's no surprise if you ever read Coconut's blog and are used to tsr's shoddiness. It is suspected that tsr wants to eliminate all competition of free sites that offer great content, and since they can't do that with the "quality" that is available on their site they resort to the low cheater tactics of hacking. Every sims site that offers free, good content (and this one does) is at risk!

Here's what to do:
1. If you haven't yet, Vovillia, you should make a backup of this site regularly so that not everything will be lost in case of a hacking attack.
2. The IP 74.55.11.66 should be banned right now in advance.
3. As a regular member, make sure you don't use any password you ever used there on any other site than tsr. Don't just change your password at tsr, they use an unencrypted database and can simply read all passwords you ever used there.

Thanks for the info, I have banned that IP address right now and even changed my password :)

The thing is with site backup, I don't know how to do that

It's really sad that TSR has to go to such levels to remove competition

I appreciate that, thecarcrazedsim. If more people would boycott them they'd vanish in oblivion eventually... I left their site about two years ago when some of buggybooz's stuff from MTS got stolen by a featured tsr creator and oh the coincidence! at the same time her profile was hacked by someone, her stuff got deleted and her policy changed to allow use on paysites. tsr claimed that it was some unrelated hacker who hacked their own site some months before (which they didn't felt the need to tell their users about whose data had gotten compromised). Really lucky timing that that other hacker decided weeks later just at the right time to hack just the right creator and do just the single thing that favored tsr. MTS keeps backups of course, so no major harm was done.

Vovillia, I understand that you don't have the same backup possibilities with this forum software as other sites, but you could start to upload you cars to a server like mediafire and prepare a post like your big car list, just with direct download links instead of links to the threads. That way all you car conversions would be available again quickly. It would take quite some time, true. But I think this site is still relatively beneath the radar and thus not in urgent danger, and maybe some member of this site who doesn't create otherwise volunteers for this task?

Most of my downloads are already redirected links from a file host, to prevent such problems

uhm, no one said something of a virus? If you mean the tracking trojan they put in their files, I believe they only do that with their pay files. The ones you can download from the booty have been carefully cleaned of all malicious stuff.
If you stop downloading there that's only fine with me. Personally, when I was still there ages ago I always had to scroll through endless amounts of content before I found some things good enough to download, and most of that got deleted after I saw how it actually looked in the game...
