I am not sure if everyone is aware, but you have to install your game in a particular order. This is an email message sent to me from EA Games. I will paste below. This maybe a little long because it also includes how to manually uninstall the game.
SIMS 2 Install Order:
1.Sims 2 or SIMS 2 Deluxe or SIMS 2 Double Deluxe or SIMS 2 Holiday Edition
2.Sims 2: University or University Life Collection
3.Sims 2: Nightlife (Disregard if have SIMS 2 Deluxe or SIMS 2 Double Deluxe)
4.Sims 2: Open For Business or SIMS 2 Best of Business Collection
5.Sims 2: Family Fun Stuff (The Sims 2: Fun with Pets Collection)
6.Sims 2: Glamour Life Stuff
7.Sims 2: Pets (Disregard if have The Sims 2: Fun with Pets Collection)
8.Sims 2: Happy Holiday (Disregard if have SIMS 2 Holiday Edition....this game does not need a Serial key)
9.Sims 2: Seasons
10.Sims2: Celebration Stuff (Disregard if have SIMS 2 Double Deluxe)
11.Sims2: H&M Fashion Stuff (Disregard if have SIMS 2 Best of Business Collection)
12.Sims2: Bon Voyage
13.Sims2: Teen Style Stuff (Disregard if have SIMS 2 University Life Collection)
14.Sims2: Free Time
15.Sims2: Kitchen And Bath Interior Design Stuff (Disregard if have SIMS 2 Best of Business Collection)

MANUAL UNiNSTALL SiMS 2
Note: If you are not doing a full uninstall of the game, please back up your Sims 2 data before completing the steps further below.
To back up your Sims 2 data:
Double click on the My Documents folder.
Double click on the EA Games folder.
Right Click on the The Sims 2 folder.
Select Copy.
Close this window and right click anywhere on the desktop that is not on an icon or in a window.
Select Paste.
Your Sims save games will now be saved to the desktop of your computer.
To restore your Sims save games, simply move this folder back into the EA Games folder.
The next step will involve deleting the game files themselves.

To remove all of the game folders:
Open your My Documents folder.
Open the EA Games folder.
Right-click on The Sims 2 folder and choose Delete.
A Confirm Folder Delete window will appear; choose Yes.
When the folder is finished deleting, close the window.
Open My Computer.
Open your hard drive (by default this is C: ).
Open the Program Files folder.
Open the EA Games folder.
Right-click and delete the Sims 2 expansions you wish to uninstall (delete all of the folders for a full uninstall)

A Confirm Folder Delete window will appear; choose Yes.
When the folder is finished deleting, close the window.
Right-click on your Recycle Bin and choose Empty Recycle Bin.

Now you can remove the registry keys for the game.
Remember that editing your computers registry incorrectly can severely damage your operating system. We recommend having a computer professional perform these steps. If you are confident, however, that you can edit your registry successfully, then please carefully follow the instructions below.
Click on Start and then click on Run...
In the text line type regedit, and click OK.
click on File and then Export...
Choose a location and name for the file; this will be your backup registry file.
Click Save.
The next steps will all be performed in the left pane of the Registry Editor window.
Click on the + next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Click on the + next to SOFTWARE.
Click on the + next to EA GAMES.
Right-click and delete the Sims 2 expansions you wish to uninstall (delete all of the folders for a full uninstall) (If there is no folder present skip this step.)

Click on the + next to EA GAMES.
Right-click and delete the Sims 2 expansions you wish to uninstall (delete all of the folders for a full uninstall) (If there is no folder present skip this step.)

Click on the + next to Windows.
Click on the + next to Current Version.
Click on the + next to Uninstall.
