ok well being a mopar guy and there being a mopar plant up the road i have the inside scoope

chrysler will be saved by fiat not having to declare chapter 7 bankruptcy or end of story lol, they can file for chapter 11, but the are stopping the viper, v10 motors, a lot of rams, almost all v6s, and stopping a couple other smal lthings, but they will be surviving, doesnt look like gm's going to be as lucky though there time is running out and my old neghbor who works at the corvette plant(until it closes) said GM just got to big for one company to handle and it just had to crumble at some point

yeah too bad that one CEO of GM had to retire back in 2002, he had the idea to branch out GM like the way Volkswagen and Fiat is branched out, but nooo he had to retire and let hard-headed idiots to ruin the place

I wouldn't worry about a FIAT take-over...

After all, they already own Ferrari and these are still great autos, I think..

Do you live in Bowling Green?!? I do! :D
But BTW, I don't think the Corvette plant will be closing, they just added on to the museum and the Corvettes one of the cars that makes GM money. I love the Corvette and the ZR1 is one of the best sports cars in the world if you're not in the budget for something really expensive (although 103.9k isn't exactly cheap).

The Corvette plant isn't exactly closing...but the high performance divisions of GM are over, which means the ZR-1 is dead, the V-Division of Cadillac is dead, and Chevrolet's SS vehicles will be phased out after the introduction of the Chevrolet Cruze in 2010.As for the Corvette,if it and the Bowling Green factory survives,it will remain a niche automobile and may become the next C3,a car that remained in production for almost a decade and a half.Production will certainly be reduced to minimal numbers.

And as for my earlier statement,if Chrysler filed for bankruptcy and Fiat didn't agree to merge, they would of been good as dead given the world economy. So yeah, the merger and the bankruptcy are quite related, cuz if the deal failed,i would almost guarantee they'd be dead in 6 months.

Sadly, yes, not everyone is gonna make it.That goes without saying. It reminds me of when the local Ford plant i live near closed down a couple of years ago...it was in the local news for days, but all i remember on the national news front is a lil' statement along the lines of "Ford closes another plant" on the bottom ticker.Still,if i worked for Chrysler,i'd just be thanking God i don't work for GM!

ya right now if u work for gm the only safe place is the vette plant, because if gm goes out of business someone will buy the vettes you know what i mean? but i had a car club friend who worked there for yearsssss who had to step down finally because of something due with all of the management reworking

Im not so sure bout that...since GM axed they're high performance divisions, the Bowling Green assembly plant is sure to see a further reduction. And even if the plant is taken over by another company,I doubt any company is gonna increase production to get the Corvette out of a niche vehicle sector(just how truly big is the market for a $45000+ two seater sports car with a big ol' V8 given in this economy?).However,I agree with you that there is one place in GM that's actually safe to be in right now... Bupyong, South Korea...location of the main assembly plant for GM's new Chevrolet Cruze global car.Chevrolet,a South Koren Revolution...maybe they can sell they're old "American Revolution" slogan to Hyundai, lol
